A powerful arctic cold front is coming southeast and will bring frigid air not seen since at least 1996 in the state. There will be temperatures in the teens all the way down to the Gulf Coast and single digits further north. Much of North Mississippi will have teens for HIGHS on Monday. A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect for Central and South Mississippi for damage to vegetation and livestock likely. It is warned to protect people, pipes, and plants! Winds chills will be a dangerous factor and it is looking like that wind chills could dip as low as -10! A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for the Jackson metro area and points northward. Along with the arctic front moving through on Sunday, rain is possible across the entire state, especially north. Rain will change to snow in some area in North MS, where a dusting is possible and locally up to 1/2", especially in NE MS near the Corinth-Iuka area. When the front moves through temperatures will tumble very quickly into the teens from the 50s by the evening in North MS and remain below freezing for at least 72 hours. More details on exact temperatures, wind chills, and (possible) light snowfall will come tomorrow.
