MAJOR WINTER STORM TO IMPACT SOUTH MISSISSIPPI

A major winter storm will impact South Mississippi and the entire Gulf Coast and the Carolinas on Tuesday into Tuesday night. Totals of half a foot may be common in the coastal Carolinas! Mississippi won't see that much, but this is still a very rare event for this part of the state. Most areas will start out as freezing rain or sleet, and some places, especially near the coast, could receive ice totals exceeding 1/10". All areas should switch to all snow by Tuesday afternoon/early evening and snow/sleet totals could locally be as high as 3-4 inches, which is VERY rare.

The maps below show POSSIBLE snow/sleet totals and freezing rain totals. This will not be the exact outcome and will likely be updated.

The National Weather Service's in New Orleans, Mobile, and Jackson have issued Winter Storm Watches for their entire CWA's, which include much of South Mississippi.
